Independent Label Market – Poble Sec

For anyone who owns a vinyl or two, and maybe even a turntable to play them on, it would be a good idea to cancel your plans for the upcoming weekend – unless of course you were thinking of checking out the Independent Label Market.

About the market

This free entry event was conceived in England and has since travelled to London and Berlin amongst other locations; but where to go next other than Barcelona. The Independent Label Market will take over a huge industrial warehouse on Carrer Blesa, 27 in the vibrant neighbourhood of Poble Sec.

This coming together of some of the best independent record labels and DJs arrives in Barcelona on Saturday 19th March for the two-day market. It’s a great opportunity to hear some real bedroom manufactured music with some of the big names providing DJ sets.  Be warned – this stuff is little less mainstream and of high quality.

One of the labels involved in the Independent Label Market is Hivern Records, co-founded by international DJ, John Talabot, who also appears on the lineup for Sunday’s Brunch Electronik, in Poble Espanyol, Barcelona. Other labels making an appearance include Bons Records and Iberian Juke.

Hipsters rejoice!

This is a prime opportunity to add the latest contemporary music to your vinyl collection with the labels flaunting their newest produce, and you can also meet the labels themselves. Each has a stall selling their latest and greatest, mostly in vinyl form, and the friendly atmosphere allows punters to mingle freely with the people behind the music. You’ll be in like-minded company, with vinyl and music lovers flocking to sample some of the industry’s freshest talent.

But what if I get thirsty?” What would such an event be without some artisan beverages? The Garage Beer Co will be showing their bearded faces and there will also be some street food stalls knocking about for when all the vinyl talk leaves you hungry. If records aren’t really your thing, fear not, as there are also stalls selling vintage accessories and clothes.

So why not make a day of it. Don’t forget your pipe and beanie hat!
