Best crepes and waffles in Poblenou

Who said you had to be in France or Belgium to eat the best crepes and waffles? If you’re in Barcelona and craving one of these things (or both, why not?), you don’t need to buy a ticket for the high-speed train. There are plenty of places around town with great breakfast and dessert food, and two of the best are in Poblenou.

You don’t need to go to Belgium, but you should definitely go to Belgious, a fantastic cafe in Poblenou. Their crepes and waffles are always perfectly fluffy and crispy, so choose your favourite sweet or savoury variety from the vast menu and give your taste buds a real treat.

When it comes to crepes, and if you’re looking for the sweet stuff, you just need to try the Speculoos, served with white Belgian chocolate and cookie sprinkles. If you’d rather try a savoury one, you can’t go wrong with the Popeye, a crepe stuffed with mozarella, fresh spinach (obviously), egg and cooked ham (or tuna).

In the sweet waffles department, our recommendation is to go for the classic, with just icing sugar. It’s just that the waffle itself is so amazing, and this way you get to appreciate its texture better. For savoury waffles, you don’t really have many options. There’s one with Emmental cheese and another one which just adds ham to that. In addition, there’s also the Crepita, an original dessert available only at Belgious.

As if all of that wasn’t enough, this place is also known for its incredible ice cream, which is absolutely revered by both locals and tourists. There are plenty of original and intriguing flavours for you to try, such as Canary Island Banana, Cannabis, Dried figs with Rosemary Honey, Iranian Pistachio or Veracruz Vanilla.

Address: Rambla de Poblenou, 24.

Chocolat-box

With its lovely terrace well positioned in the main avenue of Poblenou, this charming breakfast joint offers a wide variety of cakes, churros, crepes, waffles and ice creams. Accompany your meal with a milkshake or a fresh-pressed juice, top it all off with the best coffee in the neighbourhood. Chocolat-box is proof of just how sweet life can be.

Address: Rambla de Poblenou, 80.

There you go! If you live around Poblenou, know you know where to go when you feel like a crepe or a waffle. Perhaps there aren’t as many dessert places in this neighbourhood when compared to other locations in Barcelona, but the quality you’ll find is the best in town. Which of these places are you going to try first? Let us know how you liked them using the comment box below. Bon appétit!
