CaixaForum is the social and cultural center of the Obra Social “La Caixa”, located in a former textile factory at the lower part of the mountain of Montjuïc, 5 minutes walking from the Plaza de España. The building was commissioned by an entrepreneur to one of the most prolific modernist Catalan architect, Puig I Cadafalch, early on the twentieth century. In 1963 “La Caixa” acquired this unique architectural oeuvre and in 2002, it finally opened its doors as social, cultural and educational infrastructure of over 12,000 sqm, 3 floors and four exhibition halls.

CaixaForum has become one of the most emblematic spaces within the cultural offer of Barcelona where you can see a variety of exhibitions. The venue also has a space dedicated to cinema and music, where we can enjoy events like concerts, movie showings and even conferences and debates.

CaixaForum’s success lies in its excellent selection of itinerant exhibitions that move between the various Spanish cities.

Currently, in CaixaForum Barcelona we can visit five exhibitions of various magnitudes and content. The first one, “El arte eres tú” is a participatory exhibition to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the CaixaForum’s inauguration, urging attendees to relive one of the hundred exhibitions that have taken place on the center.

Until September 9 we can also find “Torres y Rascacielos. De Babel a Dubái” exhibition, which offers a journey through the history of this type of construction based on the myth of the Tower of Babel and to modernity through models, paintings, photographs and films.

From June the 6th to October the 14th we will enter into “cellers Modernistes” or cathedrals of wine in the exhibition “Bodegas. Cooperativismo + Modernismo”, an invitation to rediscover the modernist wineries that were built throughout Catalonia in the early twentieth century.

If you want to enjoy with the work of one of the best Spanish sculptors of the last century you can do it with Ángel Ferrant oeuvres in “Entre el dibujo y la escultura”. Last but not least, in “Cartografías contemporáneas. Dibujando el pensamiento”, the artists question us about mapping systems and its reflection on the different types of artistic spaces.Once you have gone through all the rooms and exhibitions of CaixaForum, you can relax by lowering your inner thermostat a few degrees  in “Noches de verano”, every Wednesday until August the 29th at its facilities. Do not miss the last show of these events: “El Mur” at 9pm, contemporary dance with blind or visually impaired people choreographed by the dancer Carolina Alejos in the lobby of CaixaForum. For more information about our apartments visit our website in ShBarcelona.
