Alternative Therapies: Shiatsu

Shiatsu is a form of physical therapy that was created in China, practiced as part of the traditional Chinese medicine. This is a technique in which the therapist uses touch, pressure and body manipulation to adjust the physical structure and balance the energy flow.  This influences not only the physical body but also the psychological, emotional and spiritual parts of the patient.  The main objective of Shiatsu is to support and strengthen the body’s natural ability to heal and balance itself.

What are the benefits of Shiatsu massages?

Some of the main benefits of Shiatsu massages are: stress relief, ligament stretching, immune system boosting, lymph energizing and a better blood flow.

What can be treated with Shiatsu?

Shiatsu can be used to treat a variety of conditions such as back problems, sinus headaches, insomnia/sleep disorders, sports injuries, constipation, premenstrual syndrome, fatigue, depression, anxiety, arthritis, shoulder and neck pain.

Does Shiatsu have any contraindications?

There are certain conditions that require the patient to look for an expert’s advice before trying Shiatsu. Some of these conditions are: hernias, tumors, fractures, pregnancy, osteoporosis, open wounds, inflamed skin conditions or bruises, contagious skin conditions or rashes. Shiatsu should not be applied immediately post surgery, radiation or chemotherapy.

Zenit Shiatsu

Zenit Shiatsu is a center that offers both classes and treatments. The center offers Shiatsu Zen massages and other forms of therapy like Harmonyum, DNA Activation, Feng Shui and Gestalt Therapy.

Shiatsu Vila Olimpica 

Located inside the Centre de la Villa shopping mall, Shiatsu Vila Olimpica  offers Shiatsu, Acupuncture, Feng Shui and Physical Therapy sessions.

Héctor Lucena Roldán is one of the practitioners at Shiatsu Vila Olímpica, who also works as a consultant for the Zenit Shiatsu school.
