Written by Sophia

Barcelona is chock full o’ stores selling dried goods – you just need to keep your eyes peeled for them. No matter what time of year, you’ll never regret having your pantry stocked with beans, seeds, nuts, and dried fruits. If you’re looking to save big bucks and add unique twists to your meals, be sure to check out 3 great stores to buy bulk, dried goods.

Jaime J. Renobell

SpicesJaime J. Renobell might well be Barcelona’s most beloved dried, bulk goods shops – also locally known as a graneria. Located right next to Parc Ciutadella in Barcelona’s Ciutat Vella, Jaime J. Renobell is a kind of ingredient hub for all sorts of foodies. At the door, pick one of the white tickets with your number and keep your ears perked until you’re called. In the meantime, browse their lovely selection of organic, eco-friendly cosmetics ranging from argan oil to rose salves. When your number is called, be prepared! Choose from six varieties of lentils, dried corns, spices, cocoas, coconut shavings… you name it, they’re very likely to have it! Also, check out the items at the front of the store – you’ll often find boxes of Tunisian dates on sale for unbeatable prices. Keep Jaime J. Renobell in mind next time you run into that obscure ingredient when baking…chances are, they have it!

Casa Perris

Spice MarketJust across from El Born Cultural Center, you’ll find Casa Perris, most likely overflowing with customers. Do not fear; Casa Perris’ staff has worked their nuts and spices distribution down to an art. If you want nuts, this is your place. Choose from almonds, cashews, peanuts, macadamias, and Catalonia’s favorite…chestnuts! Casa Perris also offers an impressive variety of dried fruits, perfect for snacking or adding to your next baked dish. Make sure to save some time to have a drink next door at El Born’s cocktail/tapas hotspot, Bormuth.

Granería Sala

Dried GoodsOn the old Roman road of Travessera de Gracia, you’ll find the cucumber-green painted doors of Graneria Sala. If you are looking for seeds or beans, this is without a doubt the place to go in the neighborhood. Looking to host a party of those wild green parakeets on your balcony? Consider asking the storekeepers about their bird feed. At Graneria Sala, you’ll also find pre-cooked dishes you can buy by the kilogram. The sauteed spinach with pine nuts and raisins is highly recommended.
