Have a vermouth in El Born

Written by Miguel

There are plenty of bars near the centre of Barcelona where you can drink vermouth on any given Sunday morning, but here at ShBarcelona, we like to take you to new, less obvious places. So hop on board, and join us on a trip to the Ciutat Vella district, where the area of El Born is home to two charming bars where you can drink a good vermouth and have a tasty bite.

Right by the Picasso Museum, we’ll find Xampanyet. One of El Born’s most traditional bars, it’s very popular amongst both locals and tourists, so it’s often pretty crowded. That’s alright, though – we don’t need a table to drink vermouth. However, once we finally manage to get our elbows to the bar, we might as well take advantage of the fact that we have the bartender’s attention and use the opportunity to try another great drink too – the drink that names the place.

Xampanyet is a French champagne with a particularly sweet taste, served in a very fancy cup. It’s priced at only 1,50€, which is great, but be careful with it – it’s stronger than it may seem. If you’re hungry, ask for the food menu – vast and varied, it’s full of delicious traditional snacks such as anchovies and tortillas. Xampanyet is definitely worth a visit.

Address: Carrer de Montcada, 22.

Bormuth

Another great option for a vermouth in El Born is Bormuth. Served in a small glass with half a slice of orange or lemon, one olive and the obligatory ice, their vermouth is very likely one of the best in the entire city of Barcelona. To accompany it, their menu offers both simple and sophisticated dishes, so whether you’re in the mood for a proper meal or just feel like a light snack, Bormuth has got you covered. It’s worth noting that their kitchen only opens at noon, so if you start drinking before that, you won’t be able to order any food to go with it.

A modern bar with several rooms, Bormuth is a great place to hang out with friends on a lazy morning or afternoon, just talking, eating and drinking. We highly recommend you try it.

Address: Plaça Comercial, 1.
