Best bars in Barceloneta

Written by Miguel

Located in the seaside area of Barcelona, the neighbourhood of Barceloneta offers a great mix of traditional and modern bars, often graced with beautiful views of the ocean. The next time you feel like a drink, and perhaps a tasty snack, head to this barrio by the sea and give one of these places a try:

Can Paixano (La Champaneria)

Renowned around the capital of Catalonia for its delicious tapas, Can Paixano is a bar that also functions as a liquor store (and you can even order bottles online, for maximum convenience). It’s a very friendly place with pretty low prices, so we recommend that you pay it a visit – and if you do, make sure to try their various types of sausages and have a sip of their traditional pink champagne.

Address: Carrer de la Reina Cristina, 7.

Bar Leo

Bar Leo offers a wide selection of tasty tapas and provides regular nights of live music with artists both famous and unknown. Don’t be surprised if you find it crowded and have trouble getting a table – this is one of the most popular leisure destinations in Barceloneta amongst both locals and tourists.

Address: Carrer de Sant Carles, 34.

La Bombeta

Another bar with a great variety of traditional tapas, La Bombeta take its name from its specialty, the much-requested “bombas” – delicious fried mashed potato balls. In their menu, you’ll also find various grilled sausage dishes, as well as the classic “patatas bravas” and many other flavourful bites. Their list of drinks is pretty extensive (but not expensive) and the place’s atmosphere is very relaxed and inviting, so we definitely recommend it.

Address: Calle de la Maquinista, 3.

La Cova Fumada

One of the most famous bars in the Barceloneta neighbourhood, La Cova Fumada tempts you with tapas as soon as you walk through the door, as they are displayed in the central bar, with only a thin glass separating you from their heavenly flavours. Another place with great “bombas”, La Cova Fumada is a nice choice for those on a tight budget, as their prices are quite reasonable.

Address: Carrer del Baluart, 56.

Bar Celoneta

This place deserved to be on this list for the cleverness (or silliness, depending on how you look at it) of its name alone – but that’s not the only reason why it is. Popular for its great sangria, Bar Celoneta is located right by the beach, which makes it a fantastic option for an evening out in Barcelona. When it comes to the food menu, it offers plenty of vegetarian options along with many traditional tapas. Highly recommended.

Address: Carrer de Sevilla, 70.
