Although each one is distinct in its own way, martial arts have plenty of benefits in common. They improve your concentration and mental discipline and do wonders for the body on various different levels – like strength, stamina and coordination, just to name a few.

Lucky for you, martial arts schools and gyms are all over Barcelona. In the beautiful neighbourhood of Eixample alone, there is a varied offer of lessons. This gives you an option to try different martial arts and find the one that best suits your needs or preferences.

Where?

El Club de la Lucha Barcelona

Among other combat sports such as boxing or grappling, El Club offers classes in Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts. The latter is a less focused mix of martial arts and other combat techniques, a not a martial art per say. While it does offer a complete workout, if you’re looking to learn more specific sets of techniques and practices or a more traditional discipline, opt for one of the other two.

Mugendo Martial Arts

This school is a bit unusual in that they don’t teach specific martial arts. Instead, they teach their own Mugendo discipline, which incorporates classical elements of several martial arts and is geared specifically towards personal defense and boosting the individual’s self-esteem and confidence. They have courses for children as young as 2, which have a great educational component to them – so if you’re looking for a place where you can also enroll your kids, you’ve found it.
