The neighbourhood of Besós owes its name to the river that carries the same name, that flows through this area of the Ciudad Condal. At first, the neighbourhood was built in order to accommodate the large number of people who came to Barcelona in search of a better future. The construction of the neighbourhood started with housing blocks and industrial estates, between the 60s and 70s of the twentieth century.

In the beginning the neighbourhood lacked municipal services, and it mainly became the neighbourhood that housed immigrants of all nationalities, who chose Barcelona as their new home. But residents began to complain about the lack of services, shops and means of transport, and little by little, thanks to the residents who spoke up, services were added to the neighbourhood.

Currently the area has colleges and institutes, a municipal market, civic centers and an efficient public transport network, that connects the neighbourhood with the centre of the Catalan capital.

The neighbourhood has undergone many changes recently, in general related to the Forum of Cultures which was held in the city of Barcelona in 2004. Since then, new buildings have been constructed, from luxury hotels to newly built apartments.

The apartments you will find here are of small dimensions, like studios or small apartments, although it is also possible to discover some larger apartments for families. Rental prices in this part of the city are more affordable, considering that it is still close to the sea, and it is ideal for those who seek to live near the beach, but like to pay a lower price for housing, compared to other more central areas near the coast.
