The neighbourhood of Sant Genís dels Agudells-Montbau is a residential area in the district of Horta-Guinardó. It is located in the hills of the Collserola mountain range, in a forest area, where it has gained ground.
There are several services, such as supermarkets, pharmacies, metros and buses, as well as several hospital centres, such as the prestigious Vall d'Hebrón Hospital, or the Faculty of Psychology and Pedagogy at the University of Barcelona (UB). It is an ideal neighbourhood to rent an apartment in the district of Horta-Guinardó, and it houses many students, since there is a good public transport network to travel to the city centre.
In addition, the apartments that are located here are quite affordable, which would make it possible for you to rent your own apartment with the privacy you desire, at an affordable price.
The neighbourhoods of Sant Genís del Agudells and Montbau are two different areas in the district of Horta-Guinardó. Sant Genís del Agudells is a residential neighbourhood with a village atmosphere, situated on the hillside of the Collserola mountains.
It has a relatively high population density considering the size of the area, and you will mostly find single-family buildings here, of which some have later been divided into several apartments, and some are medium-sized apartment buildings.
Sant Genís del Agudells has several services and shops, as well as health care facilities, including one of the best hospitals in Spain, the University Hospital of Vall d'Hebrón. The area of Montbau is also located on the hillside of the mountain, and it too has a lower population density.
This part of the district, just like Sant Genís del Agudells, has several supermarkets and other shops, as well as several bus and metro lines, that connect the area to the centre of the Catalan capital. You will mostly find buildings here that were built in mid-twentieth century, largely to meet the housing needs of immigrants from other parts of Spain, who populated the Catalan capital at that time.
The buildings are high, with apartments of smaller dimensions (between 40 and 70 square meters), they are bright and have spectacular views of the city of Barcelona. Many of them are duplex houses. Prices in the area are still quite affordable, largely due to the distance from the city centre, but luckily it is very well connected by public transport. It is an ideal location for students from the Faculty of Psychology and Pedagogy at the University of Barcelona (UB), for medical students with their internal medicine residency (MIR in Spain), for students who want to do their traineeship at the Hospital of Vall d'Hebrón, or for doctors and nurses who work at this huge health care centre.
The neighbourhood also suits singles and families very well, who like peaceful areas and large parks.
The most interesting part of this area is the Parque Natural de Collserola, a forest area that takes up a large part of the neighbourhood. It is full of trails, which are ideal for walking, running or cycling, both on the road and on its trails with your mountain bike.
