The neighbourhood of Can Baró is an area that belongs to the district of Horta-Guinardó, famous for its anti-aircraft artillery that was built during the Spanish Civil War.
It is a working-class neighbourhood that is affected by buildings that were the result of the migratory boom from other areas of the Iberian Peninsula to the Ciudad Condal. If you decide to rent an apartment in the district of Horta-Guinardó and you like good views and cheap apartments, the district of Can Baró has many affordable apartments in a very quiet area, with stunning views of the city of Barcelona.
The history of the neighbourhood of Can Baró goes back to the Iberian settlements, of which the remnants were found in the first half of the 20th century, in the year 1930, during maintenance works on Turó de la Rovira. After that, the land was used for agriculture, and there were farmhouses like the one the neighbourhood gets its name from, the farmhouse of Can Baró.
On the subject of real estate, you can find medium-sized apartments between 60 and 90 square meters in this neighbourhood, but there are also smaller and larger apartments. Most of the ground floor apartments have a patio or garden, and it is still possible to find single-family homes or buildings with few neighbours here.
After the immigration boom in the middle of the 20th century, tall buildings were built, which enjoy privileged views of the city of Barcelona. These apartments are very bright and sunny, and they have an elevator. The area does not have a very large population density, unlike others in the district, such as El Carmel or La Teixonera, and it has pleasant avenues, located in the upper part of the Ciudad Condal.
Some narrower streets have buildings with few neighbours and low houses. It is not a neighbourhood that has many services, except for basic needs, since it is basically a residential area. It is relatively well connected by public transport, as it has several bus lines that connect Can Baró with other areas of the Catalan capital.
First of all, the Can Baró neighbourhood is known for the farmhouse of Can Baró. This area in the district of Horta-Guinardó actually got its name because of this farm, and it has now become an educational centre.
Another incentive is the anti-aircraft artillery that was built during the Spanish Civil War, to protect the city from enemy attacks. It consists of four 105mm Vickers. For a long time, it had completely been abandoned, but in 2006 it was rehabilitated, and it has now become one of the most popular viewpoints of the Ciudad Condal.
Nowadays it is considered a monument of historical memory. Visiting it is absolutely an ideal way to remember one of the most infamous wars that destroyed Spain. Besides this, it is the perfect place to enjoy excellent views of the Catalan capital.
